A new walkway for people of Kochi

People at Kochi can start walking more comfortably soon. A 2.5 km long walkway with water frontage is being planned in the Southern part of the city, from Kundannur up to Willingdon Island. This walkway is proposed almost similar to the one at the Marine drive of Kochi, but with added facilities. Presently both in the morning and evening the walkers of Kochi are crowding at the Marine drive, around the Jawaharlal Nehru International stadium and most of the side roads and parks.

The width of this path will be ranging between 1.5 m to 3 m, and will have vehicle parking spaces. It will have twists and bends to accommodate comfortable seating facilities and playing spaces. A good number of trees and flowering plants will make it green and provide shade from the Sun, and attractive and suitable landscaping will be done as part of beautification. Space will be available for open air exercises also.

Additional features include food courts, senior citizens' pavilion, toilets, an open air theatre and a stage. The works are planned to be finished in three stages with a total estimated cost of Rs. 9 crores. Kerala State Tourism Development Council is behind this project.
