    About the city of Kochi

    Kochi is the local name for the the city of Cochin, which is the angliscized version. The city is well known through out as the commercial city of the state of Kerala of India.


    Kochi / Cochin is vibrant with the breath taking natural scenic surroundings in the state hailed as the God's Own Country Kerala. This city of Kochi has also been known as the Queen of Arabian Sea as it is placed in the strategic place for the sailors sailing through the sea. Kochi is also called as the Gateway of Kerala or the South India.

    History of the city Kochi


    All of them, from the Arabs and Chinese to the Dutch, Portuguese and the British have been through Kochi and have left indelible marks in the city. Even now you can see the old relics and historical monuments in the city particularly in the Fort Kochi area. Kochi is very proud of the fact that it has a world class port as well as an airport which can reach and connections worldwide.

    Climate of the city Kochi


    The city is placed very close to the equator and so it is in a very moderate climate zone. The city is located with the mighty western ghats on the east and Arabian Sea on the west and so the weather remains moderate most of the time. Kochi is rated in the top three tourist destinations the World Travel and Tourism Council. Kochi also finds a place in the National Geographic Traveler's '50 greatest places of a lifetime'.

    Tourist spots in Kochi


    There are many places worth seeing in Kochi and you may not able to cover them in a single day. There are Chinese Fishing nets in Fort Kochi which are only found in this part of India, Historical Churches, Palaces Jewish Synagogues etc. You can stay here at Kochi and go for day trips to Kumarakom,Thrissur temples, the famous Guruvayoor temple, Malayatoor St Thomas church, Ambalapuzha temple and many more places in and around Kochi.

    You can have Hotels, Resorts and Homestays in different types and varieties, you can actually cjhoose the place according to your taste and budget. You can find hotels from 5 star deluxe to budget oriented Economic hotels in the city of Kochi. Homestays are there in these days. Most of the Heritage palaces, century old Tharavadus of Kerala and the new family oriented houses are all turniong into home stays. You can stay at these places in their village homes, share and mingle with their hosts and the other villagers and learn the traditional way of these villagers first hand.

    How to Reach Kochi


    To Reach Kochi By Air
    The airport in Kochi is located in Nedumbassery, which is about 20 kilometers from Kochi. The airport is well connected to all the major towns and cities of India by direct flights. There are many international flights coming into Kochi airport from other cities in the world like the gulf countries, Colombo and singapore etc.

    To Reach Kochi by Rail:
    Kochi city has 3 railway stations, one as Ernakulam Junction, second Ernakulam Town and the third Harbour Terminus at the Willingdon Island. Ernakulam Junction is the main railway station where in most of the trains running from the other parts of India stop on their way to and from Thiruvananthapuram and Kanyakumari. There are frequent train services to and from Harbour Terminus to Ernakulam Junction.

    To Reach Kochi by Bus:
    The city of Kochi is well connected to the other towns and cities of Kerala, TamilNadu and Karnataka. KSRTC Kerala State Road Transport Corporation runs many buses in these routes. Deluxe Volvo buses are there available at all times of the day to Chennai, Bangalore, Trivandrum, Hyderabad and Mumbai. Semi sleepers, Sleepers, Ac as well as Non AC buses are available. Sleeper buses are the recent additions to the bus fleets here in India. You can sleep through the journey just as you would in a train. They are very comfortable.
