    Perspective on Job Projections

There were many a debate in this forum on the subject of achieving the targeted Jobs, if "Smartcity" materializes in Kochi.

Here's my views on this subject...
India have maintained Global competitiveness offering the best combination of cost-quality-scalability competing off-shore destinations such as China and Philippines.

As per the Department of IT, Current Indian IT Services offering are segmented along the following lines:

    The Vertical-Specific Specialized IT Enabled Services, which includes;
Medical Transcriptions, Legal database processing, Digital content development/animation, Online Education, Remote Maintenance, Engineering and Desgin
    and, General IT Enabled Services
Contact Centres, Telemarketing / Pre-Sales, Consumer Care, Technical Support, Back Office Operations, Accounts, Financial Services, etc., Data Processing

Because of these activities increasing geographically and spreading across key indian metros and beyond, the Department of IT have even segmented them to be in :
    Tier 1
    - Mubai, NCR (the National Capital Region) - including Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida
    Tier 2
    - Bangalore, Mysore, Chennai, Kolkota, Hyderabad
    Tier 3
    - Kochi, Ahmedabad, Pune, Goa

Now, when competition increases from other low-cost destinations like Plhillipines and China, the major players will be prompted to spread their operations into smaller towns in Tier 3 and obviously explore new service lines and options.

This Scenario shows that a reasonable % of Jobs will be available for "Smart Keralite Graduates" if "IT Park Ventures" like "SmartCity" sees the light and of course the politicians have a common understanding. Even, there is possiblity of many indirect jobs as well.

In such a situation, it is very unlikely for the IT Services companies, barring few managerial positions, that ousiders will be recruited simply because the Cost-benefit will be lost. As for the number of People that gets jobs, it depends on the policies of the government (whoever gets to sit in the chair - congress or cpm) and the necessary political support from everyone in the coming years.

    Good Post.

It's not just Kerala IT professionals who will benefit, but also semi-skilled labourers. One IT job generates two semi-skilled jobs. If that it to be believed, then we might be underestimating the potential number of jobs that could be created. Furthermore, the current IT professionals working in the Gulf, when they return to Kerala, will spend their surplus income in India rather than abroad. This is good for the Indian economy in general.

But probably the most important beneficial impact would be the precedence that would be set. Communist and socialist minded people have no place in India. Either they change or we banish them from Indian politics

    Riva,
Try to understand the point of relevance conveyed in the posting, do not waste your valuable time by typing few meaningless words which does not even make a 5 degress deviation from the point of emphasis......

How can you club Kolkota with Bangalore, Chennai, and Hyderabad? It's you who are writing funny things.

Tier 1 IT Cities are as follows: Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, mumbai (Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane), and Delhi-NCR (New Delhi, Gelhi, Gurgaon, Noida/Gr Noida)

Tier 2 Cities are as follows: Mysore, Mangalore, Coimbatore, Hosur, Madurai, Trichi, Pondicherry, Vishakapattanam, Trivandrum, Kochi, Bhubaneshwar, Chandigarh, Gandhinagar, Kolkata, Nagpur, etc

Tier 3 Cities: Indore, Kozhikode, Bhopal, Ahmedabad, Goa, Baddi, Barottiwala, Parwanoo, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Jaipur, Guwahati, etc

    Don't club Kolkata with Bangalore.

Also don't devalue Pune. Pune have more IT companies than even Mumbai.

I have heard of a story where a teacher asks a student to write an essay about how cows are of help to humans. One boy begins the sentence with "Cows are four legged creatures. People usually keep cows by tying them to coconut trees. Coconut tree has many benefits. Coconut tree gives us coconut. We make rope from the fibre inside coconut. Coconut oil is made from coconut. The leaves of coconut..." Riva, no offense meant, but many times your postings are similar to this essay.

Riva, You have made your point twice and probably it may fetch few marks. Many occassions your postings has given the realization that a good recruitment policy and etiquette is lacking in your organization both for staff and in the selection of the "peoples" representatives.
