About Rajagiri School Of Social Work
Rajagiri College of Social Sciences was established by the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI), with their foresight. School of Social Work was the first course started of in the college in the whole of South India, by establishing programmes and setting the standards for that particular field. The School of Management of Rajagiri institution is nationally ranked and recognized. The School of Computer Science and the School of Library and Information Science were also introduced to maintain the spirit of Rajagiri, that is 'Relentlessly Towards Excellence'.
There are four units of the Rajagiri institutions, three of them, The School of Social Work, The school of Library and Information Science nad the School of Computer Science are located at Kalamassery and the School of management is at the Kakkanad Campus.
About Rajagiri's School of Social work
Rajagiri School of Social Work ( RSOW ) started off in 1955 with a Diploma Programme in social work and in 1964 the school started a Masters Programme in Social Work with specialisations in Family and Child Welfare, Community development and Medical and Psychiatric Social Work. The MSW Programme of the schoolbecame well known with in a short period and with that the School also took up social work projects by establishing different Live Labs, and Research and Training in Social Work and related fields.
The Objectives of the school of social work is to impart necessary theoretical inputs on the philosophy, values, methods, fields and approaches of human service profession and management, to sensitize young professionals to the social issues by developing social awareness, to develop proficiency in helping skills and effective intervention strategiesto develop an insight into one's own self and the purpose of professional self in the helping profession as well as to sharpen skills in conceptualization, analysis, interpretation and management.
Facilities at the centre for the Phd Scholarsat rajagiri School of Social Work
Rooms are available for the Research scholars with computer and internet facility as well as intercom and storage facility.
They have access to the Library which has about 29700 books and periodicals and 171 journals as well as lots of CD's apart from th various databases like EBSCO, JSTOR, QUESTIA etc. They also have access to the computer centre with collection of computers all connected by internet and the intranet which willcater to their needs.
There is a Bi Annual Meet of all the guides to review the progress of the the research scholars, to keep them under their guidance and to make necessary suggestions to help them out.
There is a Bi Annual Meet for the research scholars who had got approval from the university to monitor their progress in the research This meeting is mandatory for all the research schoars and if they are not able to attend they are expected to give the reason in writing to the head of the centre.
Courses available at the Rajagiri School of Social Work
Phd. PGDAHS, BSW and MSW are the courses which are available in the rajagiri Schhool of Social work.
These courses in the School of social work is to give the theoretical input on the philosophy, value and the methods of the human service profession and human Resource Management. These courses have been created to develop the skills of effective program planning evaluation and management to develop professionalism in the administrative areas etc and to deveop insight into one's ownself and the piurpose of professionalself in the helping profession.
