Bhavans Varuna Vidyalaya is located in the NPOL complex at Thrikkakara. This Bhavans school of Varuna Vidyalaya is a joint venture of the Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan and the NPOL, Ministry of Defence, in the year 1992, to cater mainly to the employeess of the NPOL.
The school started off with just 114 students and 10 teaching staff and at present there are 948 students and 66 teaching staff. There are 12 non teaching staff also working in the school Varuna Vidyalaya. The first batch appeared for the AISSE (Class X) in 1998 and the first batch for the AISSCE ( Class XII) appeared in 2000.
Admission for the NPOL employees children are automatic and only the remaining seats / vacancies are allotted to outsiders. A classwise admission test is held in April / May and the total number of students are limited to 80 in every standard ( 40 in a class ).
The School Varuna Vidyalaya follows CBSE syllabus of Delhi for the classes I to XII. This is an English Medium School. Hindi is compulsory as the second language till class VIII and have to choose between Malayalam and Sanskrit for the third language. From Class IX there is only second language and that has to be chosen from Hindi, Sanskrit and Malayalam.
The school offers three groups for the XI and XII higher secondary level,
1. Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology,
2. Mathematics, Computer science. Physics and Chemistry
3. Informatics Practices, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
School Uniform:
Boys 1 to X: Light Blue shirts with half sleeves and one pocket. Navy Blue shorts with side pockets and loops at the side for the school belt. Boys who are 150cms and above should wear trousers.
Boys XI to XII: Navy Blue trousers with loops at the side for the school belt. Light Blue shirts with two Navy Blue 1.5cms broad stripes. 1.5cms away from the front edge of the left collar.
Girls I to X: Navy Blue pleated Pinafore and light blue shirt.
Girls XI to XII: Navy Blue Salwar, Light Blue kameez and Navy Blue Chunni.
Girls VI to X: Box pleat Pinafore reaching 5cms below the knee. The cloth badge should be stitched on the left hand side.
School Timings:
Std. I to V : 8.45 a.m. to 2.25 p.m.
Std. VI to XII: 8.45 a.m. to 3.50 p.m.
Lunch Break: 12.35 p.m. to 1.05 p.m
The Varuna Vidyalaya School has a Basket ball court and a Volley ball court and intensive coaching is given for the Volleyball players.
There is a well stocked Library and the children are encouraged to take books and read them.
The School has a resource room where in children who have problems / disorders are attended to and enouraged to do well. There is a trained cousellor to help the students if they are tensed up or get depressed etc.
