    Sree Cochin Swetambar Murtipujak Jain Temple

    Sree Cochin Swetambar Murtipujak Jain Temple is a well known Jain temple in the city of Ernakulam of Kerala. This Jain temple was established in 1982. The presiding deity of this Jain temple is Bhagawan Shri Dharmanath.

    Sree Cochin Swetambar Murtipujak Jain Temple is located on Gujarati Road in Kochi city. The presiding deity of this Jain temple is Bhagawan Shri Dharmanath.
    Sree Dharmanath Jain temple was constructed by Smt Hirubai Jivaraj Dhanji as a memorial to her late husband Sri Jivaraj Dhanji. Then this memorial was gifted to the Jain Sangh, the association of Jains in Kochi. The Sangh administers Murtipujak Jain Temple.

    About Sree Swetamber Murtipujak Jain Sangh, Kochi
    This Jain Sangh was started by the families who had migrated from Gujarat with their business interests in mind to Ernakulam, including the Shwetambar Murktipujak, Digambar Sthanakvasi and Terapanthi.

    Establishing Sree Swetamber Murtipujak Jain Sangh


    Muni Shri Abhaysen Vijayhi Maharaj, with two other sadhu's and 6 sadhviji, thana (disciples) eight, was the first muni to conduct his 'Chatumaas' in Jain Deraser at the Ernakulam Shri Swetamber Murtipujak Jain Sangh, in the year 1996. At that time, Mahapoojans were arranged for 15 days and they were attended by a large number of people from in and around the area.
    Maskshaman is a one month old fast which he encouraged people to observe. There are 15 days fast as well as Athai the 8 days fast were also there. Ambilodi is conducted every year according to the Gujarati Calender in the months of Aaso and Chaitra. When Ambiodi is being celebrated Shravaks are invited to condut Paryushan.

    About Jainism and their principles


    Jains are god-fearing and vegetarians to the core. If they commit any sins knowingly or unknowingly they have no hesitation to admit and seek forgiveness. The preachings of Jainism is tolerance and forgiveness. Their shrines are open to all communities and they whole-heartedly mingle with cultural and festival activities of other communities.

    Jainism is rooted on Ahimsa (non-violence), Sayyam (self-control) and Tapa (penance).
    Non-violence (Ahimsa) - to cause no harm to living beings.
    Truth (Satya) - to always speak the truth in a harmless manner.
    Non-stealing (Asteya) - to not take anything that is not willingly given.
    Celibacy (Brahmacarya) - to not indulge in sensual pleasures.
    Non-possession (Aparigraha) - to detach from people, places, and material things.
