Pallipuram Fort is the oldest fort and historical monument of the Portuguese in the whole of India.
Pallipuram is a village in the Vypeen island in the Ernakulam district of the state of Kerala.Pallipuram is located at about 25 kilometers from Ernakulam and 20 kilometers from Kochi International airport at Nedumbassery. Veeranpuzha is the eastern border, the north extension of Vembanad kayal and the arabian Sea in the west. This place was known to the british as Palliport.
Pallipuram Fort is located in the northern parts of the Vypeen Island in the Fort Kochi and is an hexagonal shaped fort which has three stories and is under the protection as a historical monument.
Portuguese built the fort in the early 16th century ie in the year 1503. In 1661 the dutch captured the fort and then sold it to the state of Travancore. This fort has witnessed many of the historic battles in Kerala.
There is a catholic church inside the Pallipuram fort and is one of the famous and well known pilgrim centers of Kerala. The church is known as "Church of Ourlady of Snow or manjumatha" in malayalam.
Cherai Beach is another attraction which is located nearby.
