Kumbalangi tourist Village is the first eco tourism village and the village is located at about 25 kms from the city of Kochi. Basically a fishing Village it is a tiny one and has an area of 7 sq kms situated in the western parts of the city.
You cannot see any resorts or walkways or any other thing related to tourism here. This is just an artistic village displaying just handicrafts and fishing equipments. There are mangroves around the place and is a paradise for the anglers. The main occupation of the families living in here is fishing, some of them are engaged in Toddy making, farmers and some others are labourers.
You can see the shores covered with Chinese fishing nets. These nets are used to catch fresh fish from the Mangroves and the backwaters around the village of Kumbalangi.
All the work undertaken here are environmental friendly and the village is the first one to get a waste management system of its own, with about 600 biogas plants.
You can find homestays which provide lodging and boarding, as there are no hotels and resorts found here. The homestays offer comfortable stay and home cooked traditional Kerala meal, specially cooked delicious and fresh seafood. You can mingle with the villagers and learn about their lives and work.
