Chendamangalam, or Chennamangalam as it is called, is located about 42 kilometers from Kochi and 14 kilometers from Cherai Beach in the Ernakulam District of Kerala.
Chennamangalam is a well known place for weaving handlooms and coir making. There is an annual fair held here called Matta Chanda (Barter system of the olden days) at the time of Vishu in April. There are 3 rivers, 7 inlets and hillocks with vast expanses of green plains in the Chennamangalam area. You can see the ruins of the 15th century Vypeen Kotta Seminary built by the Portuguese as well as Kottayil Kovilakom Palace which are the tyourist attractions of the area. Kottayil Kovilakom was the residence of the Paliath Achans who were the Prime ministers of the Maharajah of Kochi. This is a 450 years old palace and the place has a large collection of historic documents and relics. You can see a a view of a church, Krishna temple, mosque and a Jewish synagogue from the palace as an example of religious harmony existed in those days
