Piravom Valiya Pally is one of the well known ancient churches in Kerala . This church stands on a hill top on the banks of the Muvattupuzha river at about 35 kilometers east of Kochi.
The church is believed to be as old as the religion Christianity itself. There is a lamp, known as the light of hope burns through out the day and night and it is a peculiar and an unusual feature in a church. Even when the Church is named after Mary it is called as the Rajakkalude Pally that is the Church of the Kings.
People throng to the church irrespective of caste, creed or religion for the conolation and comfort which they believe that their Kings will bestow, as the Kings can never refuse the prayers and tears of Devotees. This is a pilgrinm center standing there as a fort of refuge showering blessings, ecstasy, complacence and solace to millions of devotees whocome searching for them from far and near. The church is also called as Piravom Valiyapally, Morth Mariyam Pally, Rajakkalude Pally, St.Mary’s Jacobite Syrian Church etc and the legends have it that this is the first Christian Church in the whole world.
