Willingdon Island is the man made harbour of Kochi which was created from the materials dredged while deepening Kochi Port. It is located in the district of Ernakulam and is named after the erstwhile Governor of Madras Presidency Lord Willingdon.
Willingdon Island is one of the major ports of India as well as a landmark for the city of Kochi. The island is connected to the mainland by the Venduruthy Bridge.
Cochin Shipyard is also located near the Willingdon Island and the Southern Naval Headquarters is also situated here.
Willingdon Island today plays an important role in the city of Kochi and has some of the famous and well known hotels, commercial and industrial offices of the Ernakulam District, in the willingdon issland.
This island has become a hub of activity with many offices, branches of national and international banks, travel agencies and souvenir shop warehouses. You would surely not like to miss out visiting the place while you are in the city of Kochi.
