Malayatoor St Thomas Church is an internationally famous and is dedicated to St Thomas, one of the 12 apostles of Jesus Christ. This Church is located atop the hill which is 609 meters high and is about 52 kilometers from Kochi.
St Thomas set his foot in India at Kodungalloor port and established about 7 churches in India. He founded the church atop the malayatoor Hill and later a golden cross was glowing on the hill and a rock with the impression of his feet were found there.
The church enshrines a full-size effigy of St. Thomas and there is an age old pond used for Baptism. There is an ancient Podium which is of religious and historical importance. The first Sunday following Easter Malayatoor Pernall is celebrated and the pilgrims mount the steep hill calling out "PonninKurisumala Muthappa"in the month of March/ April.
The Church is built in the Greco Roman Architecture style and the alter is of the Greek style. The frontage resembles the ancient Roman Catholic Church architecture and at the rear of the main alter, the sculptures, patterns and paintings depicting the five joyous enigmas of Jesus Christ are seen. They have different arrangements for adoration and confession.
