Let us welcome the SmartCity Project, which is expected to change the lifestyle of Kochi and Kerala. After several years of waiting, this dream project is becoming a reality.
This is a 3000-crore IT township project coming up in Kochi, Kerala. Once the project is completed, it is expected to generate 90,000 jobs. This project was originally proposed in year 2004 during the tenure of Mr. A. K. Antony as chief minister. In year 2005, the chief minister Mr. Oommen Chandy took a lot of interest to get this project going, but was delayed for various political reasons. Later, chief minister Mr. V. S. Achuthandan succeeded in changing the agreement with TECOM in favor of the state. Even though his efforts caused significant delay in making this project happen, he succeeded in protecting the interests of the state, the most significant one being retaining the Kochi Infopark with the state, which was supposed to be handed over to Smartcity according to the previous discussions.
Finally, with the interest of current chief minister Mr Oommen Chandy and IT minister Mr. Kunhalikkutty, the Smartcity project has got a new life. The construction work of Phase 1 was started on 5 October 2011. The first phase is expected to be completed within 2 years and could generate approximately 3000 jobs.
YourSmartCity.com is a complete portal for Kochi Smartcity and was formed by a group of IT professionals from Kerala to provide support for this project during the period of political opposition to this project. During year 2005 to 2007 when there were political agitations against this mega project and when this project was blamed as a real estate project, this website played a significant role in gathering support from Keralites from all over the world and provided strong support to the government to move forward with the Smartcity project. We are not part of any political groups, but we do support this project, which can bring a lot of opportunities to the next generation.
The situation is changed and there are no more opposition to this project from the state. The purpose of existence of this site is now changed to provide up to date information on this prestigious project.
